This weekend I was keen to sit down to re-watch The Matrix trilogy to its entirety, which included rewinding the dialogue of what I call – the mind f**ks, which are scenes that are hard to understand. Characters like The Oracle, Smith or even Morpheus – In the second movie, when The Architect explained the Matrix to Neo… He literally screwed with my mind and left me sad and confused with no ability to ever understanding him.
A Reality Based on Our Own Beliefs
This brought on the need to revisit this movie? With the latest research, I figured I might be able to understand the Architect better this time… This time, what The Oracle said makes sense; I got to understand Smith’s transformation. Still, The Architect, well, sadly, I only managed to absorb just some but not most of what he was dishing. In short, he left me sad and confused once again.
Next time Architect – I’ll get you next time.
Watching it again, what was prominent in the film was Neo’s questioning of Choice. He believes he has the ability to make choices now he’s woken up from the Matrix. But the Oracle makes him second guess his beliefs. Are people still living in the Matrix of their own mind? Are AI machines able to see something we can’t? Therefore are the perception of choice based on the programming of the Matrix? This viewpoint is prominent in my questions on Belief. Are we in the Matrix of our own Reality?
The Conscious and Subconscious Beliefs
Something really profound in my study on beliefs is that we have ‘beliefs’ that we are aware of that govern the way we live and our decisions. However, the real struggle is realising that we live an automatic (programmed) life based on subconscious beliefs that we are not aware of. The beliefs that started since conception were ingrained into our DNA until we formed a subconscious mind. Ever wondered where our perception of ‘fear’ comes from? What about our perception of what’s good/bad or right/wrong? – Those subconscious beliefs. We are already pre-programmed by these subconscious beliefs; how do we choose when our choices have already been perceived by our sub-programming 🤯🤯🤯 .
Subconscious Beliefs
If you have not heard of microbiologist Bruce H. Lipton, I recommend that you check him out. Reading his book called the Honeymoon Effect – the science of creating heaven on earth. He touches on perceptions and beliefs. Basically, being super conscious of our thoughts and our choices – asking yourself if this perception or decision is based on a subconscious belief. Let’s say that you have been asked to write a speech for your best friend’s wedding. Our first instance is to cringe at the idea probably. Catching yourself to know where this reaction comes from. Understanding that someone else might have a completely different reaction to that request, and instead of cringing, they might feel honoured and excited to express their love to their best friend at their wedding. Right! So if your reaction was based on fear, then it’s time to revisit a belief based on fear and find the stem of this fear (and really recognising that you probably have said no to a lot of things based on this fear) – but now you have the CHOICE to change past programming to one that inspires positive change.
Conscious Beliefs
Conscious beliefs are easier to recognise. For example – I’m not too fond of cockroaches. I can easily rewind my mind to the instanced that created that belief. The most prominent and really the earliest one being my mother screaming in disgust in seeing it – (picture the damsel in distress), and although my dad having had already killed it, he then tried to encourage me to pick it up by its antenna and discarding it in the bin. However, my mother screamed at me not to touch it, which then stemmed a new fear of cockroaches. I had just made myself powerless to this little critter, and now someone has to save me from it till the day I die. Is it a debilitating belief – You bet! – Those critters will forever rule over me until I start making a conscious effort to changing the programme.
