I feel humbled by the many facets of me that make up the person I am today. I understand myself identified as Sheila, her nature and behaviours developed throughout her life. It is hard for her to “drop the act”, so to say, because these are the only tools she has and has acquired to navigate in this 3 Dimensional realm.
Consider for a moment if I were a supernatural being in control of this girl, being able to explore life through the senses of this human. What would I do to cultivate her way of thinking, her responses to the environment and the circumstances around her to experience the best that life has to offer?
Are We on Auto-Pilot Mode?
There is a lot to say about smartphones, but one way to emphasise how we function on auto-pilot is by noticing how we interact with our phones when we are switched off and winding down at the end of the day. A trigger finger, our thumb’s muscle memory does all the clicking and scrolling without us being aware. Similarly, the same auto-pilot that gets us up and to work every day, the automatic emotional reactions to our triggers, how we naturally gravitate towards predictability so our brains can move through life without fearing the unknown.
We Become Our Programme
The biggest lesson I have learnt and continue to discover is seeing the unfolding of my reality based on the subconscious programming I have been living in all this time.
What information have we been fed that has created this identity we call “self”? What subtle influence has society, government, media, education, and parenting done making us who we are today? Subtle influences are information fed subconsciously that controls the way we think under the pretence that we are in control of our thoughts. The Social Dilemma, regarded by many as a horror film disguised as a documentary, clearly explains how our analytical mind is subtlely under the influence of an artificial intelligence-generated algorithm.
It is established that most of us live 90% of our day unconsciously, relying on our subconscious programme. The remaining 10% is where we tend to make more mindful decisions primarily because our brain cannot compute an automatic response due to new scenarios or environments. When I go to a bakery, think I am in control of my choices when I choose to order a croissant, but I fail to see the backend programme of how I have come to prefer croissants over all the other options because my choice is actually based on predictability from having tried it many times rather than choosing the unknown.
This brings me to the question; How often do I walk in the realm of consciousness, and how often do I catch myself gravitating back to my subconscious programme?
Sometimes I wonder what makes some people so addicted to extreme sports, putting themselves in harsh environments or participating in activities that require them to be ultra conscious (“switched on”) for extended periods. Compare that to those comfortable staying in the “safe zone” of predictability and routine (think Sheldon Cooper in The Big Bang Theory).
I can only guess that it starts from conditioning from a young age that has programmed an element of challenge outside the boundaries of safety and predictability.
In the book “The Biology of Belief“, Bruce Lipton explains that at 0-7years of age, your brain wave is mostly in alpha and theta; this makes it highly programmable, similar to a hypnotic state. Ironically, this is the same brainwave state we are in while watching television. We go from beta to alpha, which makes us programmable by the programme you are engaged in (pun intended).
Small Shifts to Breaking Away from Past Programmes
For most, the decision to start living more consciously comes after being struck by some form of tragedy. When our current reality isn’t working out for us, change must happen. Why not start our shift now when we are conscious of our auto-pilot? while we still have the energy to start all over if necessary?
A significant shift for me was to stop reading the news. I realised that news and media are negative black holes. Gravitating to reading the news the first thing in the morning has become an automatic ritual for many. My shift was to be conscious of the sources of information geared to keep us in a state of fear and survival and instead start it with gratitude and intention.
How are you Vibing?
Maybe I was too dense (in low vibration) to see it before, but cutting out negative information brought me on a new path to mindfulness. I realised the vibration emitted from me by my subconscious resonates with similar vibrational realities around me, like a tuning fork. Becoming aware of my past programming, aka subconscious mind, and how it projects into my reality now encourages me to question everything, take ownership of my energy, and re-condition my mind, opening the doors to a new future.
The Universal Law
Exercising your right of free will isn’t easy. Everyone has the freedom of choice. For myself, the grounding force of being a wife and mother has taught me that life isn’t just about my own conscious. It is about being conscious as a collective, working together by lifting the vibration of people surrounding you without judgement. Relating to people in this realm is essential in your journey and theirs.
Free will is gifted in this existence. Free will means we take responsibility for our choices and, in this case, our own programme. Save it, delete it, overwrite it; it’s your choice. Once you understand this principle, there can be no blame because no one is in control but you.
There is a saying, “When the student is ready, the teacher appears.” There have been shifts and alterations in my life that I can’t fully express here, though I know these shifts need to happen for the teacher to appear. The question would be, are we too afraid of change that we should stay predictable? Or will we start taking our human avatars on a journey of discovering the unknown?
