World Kindness Day 13 Nov, 2020
Woke up at 6am and I checked the weather… no clouds, no threat of rain or any other form of bad weather. Perfect! Another beautiful Friday where the stars have alighted for us this morning.
Our usual Yoga in the Park which normally takes place at the Botanical Gardens, but this time we took it East to Changi Beach Park where we came together with some of the most amazing ladies from the Amazing Trekkers Club and organised a morning beach clean.
Not sure what to expect some of us arrived early to enjoy the sunrise but was surprised to find the washed debris awaiting our arrival.
Time to get Cleaning
Without a doubt we have to start our day with a simple mobility stretch and movement awareness before we grabbed our buckets and tongs to start our clean march.
My intention when I thought of organising this event was to be able to provide a little awareness to service and to be able to give back to nature some kindness after all the love that nature and mother earth has been shining upon us from our park yoga and nature walks. Always aware of the litter we see around us I though it would be great to take some responsibility and do our part to help clean up some of the trash our people leave behind.
However just like nature has always surprised us, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of gratitude as I squatted down to pick up every little piece or rubber band, every scrap of foam ‘tapou’ box, or popsicle stick and the umpteen number of plastic straws. The sense of gratitude was so overwhelming that I felt that with every item I picked filled up, my spiritual cup got filled in an impactful way – knowing that another fish, bird or any other animal that we share this planet with was not going to be harmed by what we are doing today. Only nature can do this. That is why I encourage you, a call to service – do something out of your normal self giving practice to give something back to nature and to encourage others to share in this journey with you.
This is our first #YITP event initiative and it will surely not be our last. We look forward to organising more events like these in the future. If you would like to be part of our awesome group of nature lovers feel free to check out and join Yoga in the Park as well as the Amazing Trekker Club.
