I always thought that my local chicken rice in the afternoon and laksa in the evening is easy supplement to my busy lifestyle. But it turns out, moving to 18,000 steps per day still doesn’t qualify me as a professional athlete where copious amounts of carbohydrate rich foods gets easily burned as fuel. Another big problem I have at the moment is that I can’t remember the last time I had a really good night’s sleep.
That is why I put together this like food log call My Food Diary. Quotes like “You Are What You Eat” and “You Can’t Out Exercise a Bad Diet” is something we hear very often. It is in part very true. We have to start being aware of how food feels in our body. This food diary it isn’t a complicated macro counting app, or a personalised diet formula plan. Instead, it is an easy to use template to tap into how we feel with conscious logging of meals, movement and observations.
This printable food diary creates awareness to the habits of what we choose to put in our bodies daily. Easy to use simple ✓ options of your daily intake of beverages and activity levels during the day makes us mindful to balance your day with movement and hydration. Meal and Snack input sections where you can insert your day’s food and snack choices followed by three input sections of Observation & Time – two for each portion of the day (morning, noon and evening) – here is where you can indicate any observations that you feel is worth documenting related to your lifestyle choices (eg. feelings of bloatedness, lethargy, allergy flareups etc.)

Keep it Real and Honest
I call it a diary because you will have to be honest with yourself. It is personal – so be specific as much as can. Put in any additional information you think might be useful in any of the spaces available e.g. time to bed, menstruation cycle, macro count, anxiety attacks… anything.

Last but not least update the quality of sleep you had. This is important because a lot of our function and food choices we make during the day is affected by the quality of sleep we had the night before and vice versa.
Study and Cross Reference
The biggest reason for creating the Food Diary is to have and easy visual reference to how food and lifestyle choices effects the function and performance of our bodies. If we have enough food log information along with observations we can better gauge food intolerance, unhealthy eating or drinking habits, the quantity and quality of food we take relative to the physical activities we partake as well as the quality of our sleep. With this all in one easy access information, we can easily start to break away from negative habits and break down the effects our lifestyle choices has on our body.
